Neurosurgeon and Matron Offer Students a Taste of Working in Healthcare
Posted on: 20/02/2025On Monday, 12th February, our Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary Science (MDV) group had the exciting opportunity to visit Queen’s Hospital in Romford. The group is made up of aspiring health professionals – including future doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, and more.
The students were lucky enough to hear from two passionate, experienced professionals who gave us a real taste of what it’s like to work in healthcare.
First up, a Matron from the Paediatrics department shared her fascinating career journey. She spoke about the diverse roles she took on before landing her current position and the challenges she overcame along the way. Her enthusiasm for her work was contagious, leaving everyone in awe of the impact she has on young patients' lives.
Next, a neurosurgeon spoke about his path to becoming a consultant. He offered an eye-opening look into the world of neurosurgery, highlighting the complex challenges faced by specialists and the ways they transform patients' lives for the better.
Both speakers took the time to discuss salaries and career progression, equipping our students with valuable information as they consider their future paths. The best part? They also offered work experience opportunities within the hospital, a crucial step for anyone looking to pursue a career in healthcare beyond Sixth Form.
It was an unforgettable day that sparked excitement and motivation among all the students!
