Academic Reading
At Harris Rainham Sixth Form, we place a strong emphasis on academic reading as a cornerstone of intellectual growth and academic excellence. Every student receives a carefully chosen book from our Reading Canon—a curated collection of texts selected by subject experts to deepen knowledge, spark curiosity, and inspire critical thinking in their chosen fields.
To further nurture a culture of reading, our Assistant Principal conducts focused reading groups, providing students with a platform to discuss, analyse, and engage with complex ideas in a collaborative setting. This initiative not only enhances comprehension but also encourages thoughtful dialogue and a deeper appreciation for academic literature.
In addition, students have access to an extensive range of wider reading resources via our subject SharePoint pages. These curated materials empower students to explore topics beyond the curriculum, broadening their understanding and fostering a love for independent learning. At Harris Rainham Sixth Form, academic reading is not just an expectation—it’s a gateway to unlocking potential and achieving academic success.
