Academic offer
Students study a wide range of subjects (concentrating on the “facilitating subjects” valued by the most competitive universities) which lead to A-level and Vocational examinations. Classes are taught by skilled and enthusiastic subject specialists who share a love of their subject and an ability to make sure that students are stretched and inspired to fulfil their high academic potential. The majority of our students study for 3 A-Levels or equivalent, although some students study 4 A levels or equivalent. Each A-Level has 4 x 80 minute lessons a week over both years. In Year 12, students additionally have 1 x 80 minute electives lesson each week.
Learning is not limited to academic pursuits and students are encouraged to develop physical as well as mental fitness. On Wednesday afternoons all students have the opportunity to play sports. Students are encouraged to take part in a variety of individual and team sports and there are opportunities for competitive games against other Sixth Forms.
Harris Rainham Sixth Form is focused on turning out thoughtful and curious individuals ready to study in the top universities in the UK and abroad and ready to make their contributions to society.
During year 12 students select from a range of electives that are designed to take students understanding of themselves and the world beyond the confines of their academic studies. These include electives that develop skills in drama and sport, academic seminars in areas such as criminology or within one of our three academic guilds. These guilds specialise in equipping students to enter the most competitive fields of study and employment such as medicine and law.
Year 12: Students are provided with five study periods each week. These dedicated sessions are designed to encourage the effective use of our study areas and library facilities. By engaging in independent preparation and consolidation of their learning, students develop exceptional study habits that will serve them throughout their academic journey and beyond.
Year 13: Students benefit from an additional two study periods per week. These opportunities support their continued focus on achieving outstanding academic outcomes as they prepare for the next stage of their education or career.
