Mrs Ward shared her career in politics, including her time working as part of the Foreign Office, and her current work representing local residents in her ward. Students and staff thoroughly enjoyed Mrs Ward's visit and found it insightful to see how local government operates.

HRSF Reading Canon - Students Receive Their Chosen Books

Canon1At HRSF we champion reading for pleasure and see this as something that helps to build character and broaden minds.

Reading has the ability to spark curiosity and encourages us all to feel empathy for others, traits that are proven to support students in both their academic and personal growth.

To encourage reading for pleasure, at the start of term all of our students selected a book from our Reading Canon; a choice of books thoughtfully created by our teachers and subject experts. The recommendations were a mix of classic texts, subject specific texts and books from the 'Lit in Colour' reading lists.

This week, the students were excited to receive their chosen books and there was a real buzz in the air as they spoke about their choice of text with teachers and peers.

We look forward to hosting a coffee morning in the near future where students will get to meet with the teachers and subject experts who made the recommendations. In the words of Roald Dahl "we should all be open to new opportunities and discoveries", and we are excited to see where this literature journey takes them.
