Biology
The purpose of our A-Level Biology curriculum is to give every student the opportunity to meet the high expectations of our sixth form vision and to provide the knowledge, conceptual understanding, practical skills and attributes for academic success.
Our curriculum strives to support students in the accumulation of core knowledge which allows then to gain a deep understanding in both animal and plant biology. By offering an ambitious, knowledge-rich approach to the subject, we aim to equip each curious learner with an appreciation of biological systems, from the microscopic scale of the cell to that of entire biomes. Our curriculum is sequenced to highlight the connections and interdependence between all aspects of the planet we inhabit.
Our curriculum has the following aims:
- Develop essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of the subject and how they relate to each other.
- Develop and demonstrate a deep appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of scientific methods.
- Develop competence and confidence in a variety of practical, mathematical and problem-solving skills.
- Develop curiosity, interest and enthusiasm for the subject, including developing an interest in further study and careers associated with the subject.
- Understand how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how the sciences contribute to the success of the economy and society.
