Mrs Ward shared her career in politics, including her time working as part of the Foreign Office, and her current work representing local residents in her ward. Students and staff thoroughly enjoyed Mrs Ward's visit and found it insightful to see how local government operates.

Nimrut, Year 13, and US Sutton Trust Programme

US3Nimrut, Year 13, was one of only 100 students in the UK selected for the US Sutton Trust programme. This summer she visited US Ivy League universities as part of the programme.

At Harris Rainham Sixth Form we place importance on gaining knowledge, skills and experience which opens future doors. Many of our Year 12 students have already been applying for programmes to enhance their competitive profile. An example of this the Sutton Trust Programme.

"Over the course of a week we had the pleasure of staying in the dorms of Yale," said Nimrut. "We visited universities such as Harvard, Yale and Columbia but also small liberal arts colleges such as Williams College and Smith College where we were given tours and information sessions.

"One of my favourite days was the college day fair hosted by Harvard where we had the opportunity to network with admissions officers across 26 different universities. We also partook in cultural activities and visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Yale University art gallery, had lunch in Central Park and the highlight of my trip - the Rockefeller Center - where we saw the most incredible view of New York City.

"It was also fun to try American candy, restaurants and Yale dinners were absolutely delicious! Along the way I met incredible people and have made invaluable friendships. The Sutton Trust US programme has changed my life for the better and I can't wait to see what the future holds for me."
