Mrs Ward shared her career in politics, including her time working as part of the Foreign Office, and her current work representing local residents in her ward. Students and staff thoroughly enjoyed Mrs Ward's visit and found it insightful to see how local government operates.

Harrison has joined the STEM SMART community, which is a widening participation initiative from the University of Cambridge in association with Isaac Physics. Harrison has so far completed online mastery seminars and will receive support around university applications.

Harris Rainham Sixth Form Praised Following First Ofsted Visit

Harris Rainham Sixth Form is celebrating after receiving positive and encouraging comments from Ofsted inspectors following their first visit.

In their first monitoring visit since the Sixth Form opened in 2023, inspectors said that it had made ‘significant progress’ in all areas assessed. This is the best possible outcome for a monitoring visit and a full inspection will be taking place at the Sixth Form in due course. Click here to see the full report.

The Sixth Form received a highly complimentary report from inspectors who praised the “coherent curriculum” and “extensive academic enrichment”.  The inspectors also noted that “this challenging programme … gives young learners from an area of educational deprivation rich choices about their next steps”.

IMG0119Across all subjects, inspectors found that a “well-planned curriculum” of “challenging content” is on offer, leading all students to be “well prepared for external examinations” in which they achieve highly. 

Likewise, the quality of teaching is praised, with teachers described as “well-trained subject experts who convey subject specialist knowledge to their students well”.

Inspectors also reported that students benefit from high-quality careers support and guidance which includes advice on a wide range of university, apprenticeship and career pathways.  The inspectors highlighted the support given to students interested in pursuing careers in medicine citing the opportunities they have to visit hospitals and hear from medical professionals.

“We are delighted with this report which rightly reflects the tremendous progress our Sixth Form has made since it opened in Autumn 2023," said Gareth Stananought, Principal of Harris Rainham Sixth Form.

“With students in Years 7-11 thriving at Harris Academy Rainham, it is great to be able to offer them and other aspirational young people from our local community two more years of a Harris Rainham education.

“This Ofsted outcome is credit to our hard-working and committed staff as well as our dedicated students who show such enthusiasm for learning. I hope to see this success continue as our Sixth Form continues to grow and develop in the future.”
